Can SSAFA help with housing?
SSAFA can offer impartial guidance around housing issues for those who have left the Armed Forces. Our guidance includes homelessness, housing benefits, accessing social housing, tenants’ rights, mortgage arrears, repossession and eviction.
Does SSAFA support merchant navy?
SSAFA’s caseworkers not only exist to relieve need, suffering and distress amongst the Armed Forces, veterans and their families in order to support their independence and dignity but also, through Seafarers UK’s funding, support Merchant Navy seafarers and their dependents in need.

Do ex servicemen get priority housing?
Local authorities must now ensure that members of the Armed Forces and ex-servicewomen and men suffering with mental health conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are given priority for housing.
Are Merchant Navy veterans?
Auxiliary and Merchant Navy deserve recognition for their service to this country in successive conflicts. All those who have served on a civilian vessel whilst it was supporting the Armed Forces are recognised as Veterans.

Offer a job if you or someone you know is hiring. Engage in community activities. Some military members return to a huge network of friends and family; others do not. Arrange outings to baseball games, museums (though many returning veterans I worked with were initially averse to crowds), or the movies.
