Which is better helicoil or time sert?
The only advantage to a Helicoil I found, is that it is cheaper. Being in the industry for a little while I have seen time and time again, that cheaper is never better. The procedure is basically the same as a Time-Sert, drill out hole, tap hole, insert helicoil, thread in new bolt. Now the advantage is in the insert.
Is a helicoil a permanent fix?
As long as the bore bit for the helicoil attains full 100% contact with new base metal and the helicoil tap is run in square with the bore the repair is usually permanent.

Can a time Sert be removed?
TIME-SERTs can be removed with a spiral point screw extractor, or drilled out with the drill that came in the repair kit. Not recommended to use ez-out or screw extractor on BIG-SERT because of the locking pin at the bottom of BIG-SERT it will create a cam lock effect.

Can you JB Weld a spark plug in?
Originally Answered: Can I J-B Weld a spark plug insert into a stripped hole that’s already been repaired once before? J-B Weld won’t work in this situation. I would recommend a safety sert or a heli- coil or else you’re looking at a head.
How do you size a helicoil?
Drill out the damaged threads using the drill supplied in the kit. Drill to a sufficient depth to accommodate the insert length and the bolt or screw being used. Tap the hole using the Heli-Coil tap supplied in the kit. Check the size on the shank of the tap to be sure it is the right size.
